Trail Description and Points of Interest
Truthfully, given that it’s only about 300 feet from the informal parking area to the falls, this family-friendly adventure in Vermont isn’t about hiking but is entirely about swimming and enjoying the relaxing vibes of Pikes Falls.
As you traverse the short, unmarked, but easy-to-follow path leading to Pikes Falls VT, you’ll wander through lush greenery, and be wrapped in the soothing sounds of nature. The trail is simple and safe, making it perfect for families with children.
In spite of the trail being unmarked, you can hear the falls right from the start, and after a short while you can see the run-out stream. In the very unlikely chance you’re having trouble “navigating” this trail, just walk towards the sound of the rushing water, and you’ll be fine.
The upper falls are beautiful, but not suitable for swimming in.
However, the lower falls are swimming friendly, that is if you’re brave enough to get into the fresh mountain water that, even during summertime, is still quite brisk!
Even if you don’t want to swim, you can sunbathe on the rocky shore of the plunge pool and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the rushing water.
Pikes Falls makes for happy babies!
And of course, if you’re in the mood for a little stream hike, you can make your way down the run-out stream in water that will likely be only ankle high. But, tread with caution, as it can be very slippery!

Route Map
If you’ve read any of our other posts, such as the one on the nearby Lye Brook Falls Trail in Manchester, VT, you likely remember that GuruMaps is our go-to app for navigating while we hike.
If you do decide to download GuruMaps, you can then download our annotated route map (just click one of the file format options in the top right-hand corner of the map below – GPX, KML, or GeoJSON), and then you’ll be able to open that file using GuruMaps. Once it opens, you’ll have our annotated trail map in your own hands.
It sounds like a lot, but it will take you less than a minute.
Our favorite part…
GuruMaps works without WIFI or cell service. So as long as your phone is charged, you’ll be good to go!
If you prefer a Google Map, however, that’s no biggie. Keep in mind, however, that it likely won’t work when you’re at Pikes Falls, as at the time of publication, the service was quite spotty.
