Fall In NYC – So Many Ways To Enjoy It With Your Kids
Fall is the perfect time to visit NYC with your little ones. The days of scorching heat are over, and the days of beautifully layered clothes are just beginning. However, the weather is not the only thing that makes fall in NYC amazing. There are many New York City parks as well as other interesting, cozy, and Halloween-y things you can enjoy with your kids. And that is why we are here – to share the best ones with you. So, whether you have one day in NYC, or if you more fully want to know what fall in NYC is all about and how to enjoy it with your kids, keep on reading.
NYC Boo!
Fall months are all about Halloween. And nobody does Halloween better than the Big Apple. You can start your Halloween fun in the NYC zoo and be a part of the annual Boo at the Zoo, where you and your kids can view the animals, listen to spooky stories, learn how to carve a pumpkin or watch a show with Halloween animal puppets.
Move on to the Headless Horseman Haunted Hayrides and Haunted Houses, and look at your little ones having the time of their lives. And, then, when the night falls, go to the Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze – a pumpkin promenade in the center of NYC. Here you can look at more than 7,000 hand-carved jack-o’ lanterns while listening to spooky music.
However, if you want to have a spooky family adventure on a budget, just take your kids trick-or-treating on the streets of NYC. But, of course, wait for the 31 of October for that!
Fall Festivals In NYC Are a Must
Fall in NYC is full of festivals. Some festivals celebrate Halloween, some food and drinks, and some people and music. It isn’t easy to name them all, but we are sure that you and your little ones will love the following:
- Fishkill Farms – come here for apple picking, pumpkin carving, and hay rides
- Melick’s Town Farm Cider Mill – great for eating corn, candy apples, and trying all sorts of ciders
- Spooky Pumpkin Garden at the NY Botanical Garden – a place where kids can learn about bats and watch a spooky puppet show
- Ghouls and Gourds at The Brooklyn Botanical Garden – this place is a must if you come to NYC with a costume or two
- Kids Rock Fall Feast at Rockefeller Center – great for those who love music and arts and arts & crafts
- Halloween Celebration at the American Museum of Natural History – visit the museum and prepare for a different kind of history class
These are just some of the events you can enjoy with your kids during fall in NYC. No matter which ones you pick, be sure that you will not regret it.
However, if you have a bit more time on your hands, do your best to visit them all. Don’t worry about accommodation – there are plenty of affordable and family-friendly hotels in the Big Apple. And, if you have a lot of stuff that can’t fit into your hotel, there is a simple and convenient solution for that, too – just rent short-term storage.
If you’re keen to get out of the city a bit and head upstate, there are always tons of things to do in Old Forge, New York too!
And, while it’s not a festival, consider checking out The Edge New York opening, if you’re keen on a skyscraper adventure that will allow you to experience what it’s like to look down upon the Big Apple from more than 1,200 feet up!
And So Are The NYC Fall Foods
When in New York, you just have to try the food. And, when in NYC during fall, it would be a shame to miss out on some fall food specialties.
So…
If you find yourself exploring the many parks throughout the city with your kids, look around for street food stands. On these stands, you will be able to try roasted corn, candy apples, apple cider donuts, hot chocolate, and pumpkin pies.
And, while your kids are trying these…
Don’t hesitate to get yourself a glass of mulled wine and a plate of roasted chestnuts – these will warm you up in no time!
Hopefully, these things and places gave you inspiration on how to spend fall in NYC with your kids. So, include them in your itinerary – we are sure your family will have a blast.
