    • It’s so hard to believe that we’ve been living in our RV and traveling around for almost 9 months! My “baby” was only 9 months old when we left Hong Kong. Now he’s 18 months. He’s grown up (basically) in our home trailer. I knew time was going to fly, but I didn’t realize just how quickly it really goes.
That saying…”the days are long but the years are short…” cannot be closer to the truth for me. Some days…boy are they long, and at times hard, but the time passes so incredibly quickly that if I don’t intentionally remind myself of that, even in the hard and long moments, the days, weeks and months can fly by.
I am so incredibly grateful for the amazing moments. I’m also grateful for the hard ones, for if I never had tough moments, I might not ever realize just how sweet the precious moments are.

    • Have you ever reached your social media limit?
For us, recently, we have!
So now, partly because we have no other choice (Death Valley has limited service 🤣) we are going to step away from our account for a little while to take a break from screens.
We love this community and thoroughly enjoy sharing about family friendly destinations and motivation for getting outside with kids! We just need some time away to refresh and reanalyze what we want to share about moving forward.
We will certainly be back and hopefully refreshed and recharged! ❤️

    • There is something magical about being outside at sunset, watching your children play in the dirt. When there is just barely enough light left to see, they come running to the door, dirt under their finger nails and smiles on their faces. I LOVE that they LOVE being outside.
I love that we are able to be outside more than we ever have before. It nourishes the soul and reminds me of just how grateful I am to live on this earth.
Are you getting enough outside time or are you hoping for more?

    • Let’s talk about “RENT”
Where do we park our trailer every day? How much is it?
We are here to give you the long answer. 🤣
1. We boondock! Boondocking is camping on public lands (BLM and National Forest Land) for free! That means, we fill up our fresh water tank (80 gallons) and when we run out of that, we need to head on back to a campground. This usually lasts us about 2 weeks. After that point, our black and grey tanks are full and we are about out of fresh water. Boondocking is by far our favorite way to “camp.” It’s GORGEOUS and we can really get close to nature (pic above 👆🏼)
2. We stay at campgrounds. There are levels of campgrounds. Some are resorts, and some are the bare min. We bought a camping membership to Coast to Coast and therefore, we save on camping in the long run. There are lots of different memberships you can get. I’ll do another post about that.
Overall, between boondocking and staying at campgrounds, we budget about $20 a night on “rent.” Sometimes less and sometimes more.
⛺️Are you a boondocking or campground sort of person!?

    • We’ve only been in Sedona for a short time, but already, I can tell you a hike that everyone MUST DO.
💾 Save for later if you don’t want to miss the best views of Sedona!
The trail is called Doe mountain. Fitting since there are deer all over the place. 🦌
It’s short (about 45 min to get up the mountain). Once you’re at the top, there is a trail following the perimeter of the butte, giving you a 360 degree view of the canyon below. You can do as little or as much of the rim trail as you want. ⛰
It’s steep in the beginning, but our 2.5 year old did the whole thing ( with some “super boosts” from us to get up some of the rocks. 🧗‍♀️
If you hike in the morning, you will hike on the shaded side of the mountain. So, depending on what time of year you come, it would be a good idea to wait until later in the day so it is a little bit warmer. ☀️
If you have a fear of heights, this trail may not be suitable for you. There are many cliff edges to look over. 😅
Unpopular opinion alert 🚨: I liked this hike better than the famous Devil’s Bridge, because it was not crowded and for minimal effort the views were out of this world! You be the judge. ♥️😄
    • On the trail, we often get comments like “wow, you guys are brave!” Or “you’ve got your hands full!”
I’m sure the people who say these things are trying to be flattering and just want to make some conversation.
Ya know what though? I think my “hands full” is a GREAT thing! It means my heart is also full!
One piece of gear that helps me have my hands free is the amazing @trail.magik carrier! Peri also LOVED IT! He thought it was so fun to chat with Kai and lay his head on mommy’s chest again (it’s been awhile!)
We were so excited to receive this carrier from @trail.magik because it is going to give us a feasible way to backpack with our kiddos again! It is super light weight and very easy to get your toddler seated inside correctly. It hooks right on to any backpacking backpack 🎒, making it super convenient!
So, I’ll continue to have my heart full and my hands free when hiking and backpacking with my baby and toddler! ♥️♥️
How about you? Have you seen this carrier? 😄 Head to my stories for a discount on this amazing piece of gear!

    • Hiking in the Desert with Babies and Toddlers:
Every landscape has their own dangers and elements to consider before going out on an adventure. The desert is no different. Here are some things we have done to make for better desert hikes with our two youngsters.
💦BRING A LOT OF WATER even in winter. NPS recommends 1 gallon per person per day. Since it’s winter, we have brought a bit less than that, but still 1-2 litres more than we normally do. Also, we fill a gallon jug to leave in the car for when we return from our hike.
💩BRING MORE DIAPERS. My kiddos have been drinking more water, therefore filling up their diapers a bit quicker. So, I throw one extra diaper each into the pack.
☀️ BRING SUNSCREEN and HATS. Even in winter, the sun is bright and it’s still possible to get those harmful rays.
🌵 TEACH YOUR KIDDOS ABOUT THE PLANTS. Peri usually likes to pick up sticks and other things while hiking. In the desert, sticks can have thorns! I mistakingly picked up a dried out prickly pear because I thought it was a rock 😅. Needless to say, I had to get some thorns out of my finger that day. We stick to rocks only on the desert.
🦁 TEACH YOUR KIDDOS ABOUT THE ANIMALS. We are in rattlesnake and cougar country. We don’t let the kids go in front. One of us is in the front and one im the back. We also stick close together in a group.
👶🏼 BRING YOUR BABY TO A PLACE THAT’S safe for him / her to walk on their own. We scouted out some hikes around our RV park that has a giant wash. It’s awesome because it’s miles long, we can hunt for rocks, AND it’s a completely safe place for baby to get out and walk. Just make sure there is a safe place during the hike they can actually get out and release their energy.
😊 HAVE FUN! The desert has so many beautiful and unique plants and animals. It’s so fun to spot them and talk about the local ecosystem.
Have you been hiking in the desert? Anything to add?
